Goodbye wisdom teeth!

It's been a while, but I've been keeping busy! Last week I got my wisdom teeth out and while taking it easy for three days I got a lot of knitting/crocheting done. There was something about not really being able to eat or talk that made knitting even more enjoyable. I started off knitting for a day and a half. I've been in the mists of my first sweater the entire summer and finally got all the actual knitting done. It isn't really piecing together the way i wanted, and it's acrylic so I can't really block it very much. I'm just glad I used cheap yarn :)

After being disappointed with all that time wasted I grabbed my crochet hook. When I move out in a week I'll have a bedroom with hardwood floors (which is very exciting!) and I figured I would need a rug so I started working on this. It's just a huge granny square with fancy edging. The nice part was getting all of the square done in two days since I had nothing better to do. i was a little unsure about how it would stick to the floor but I put some of that tulip fabric paint on the back and it really does stick! I'm kind of surprised..

The ruler in there is 2 feet for scale. The next pic shows what I meant with the fabric paint.

I hope it goes well with my dresser/lamps from my last post!

New Furniture.. kind of.

This year I get to have my own bedroom at school and I wanted everything to match! The dresser I got last minute last year was pretty horrible. My mom got it from wal mart and when I think about it, it was probalby in the office section. I started painting it weeks ago but had so many different plan changes due to the cheap fake wood stuff on the outside I was going to tape parts to leave the wood with black but then the fake wood stuff came off with the tape.. so I ended up kind of hand painting this stripes on with gold. The black is some semi gloss spray paint so it's nice and shiny :) After all is said and done I'm happy with it. It had those really plain black plastic handles on it before so I got new gold ones

Here's a close up of the "character" the lines have

Next was a few lamps I had from target from way back. They were like a bright lavender before. They were really hard to get pictures of lol

here's the bottom (and my shadow)

and the top (with a shadow from a tree)

and the matching desk lamp, you cant see the design very well in the pictures but it's the same as the lamp

Just a few more weeks till i can decorate the rest of the room!

more jewelry

Last time I tried to take pictures the sun set on me, so I finally got around to taking pictures of the rest today.

Here is a different magazine clipping pendant

More buttons!

and the last one is just a hand painted wood piece that I glued onto a ring blank. I used to make a lot of these before I discovered resin, some of which are still in my shop.

there are actually more, but the pictures didn't come out as I had intended so they may have to wait for another day. Usually I never find the time or motivation to take my pictures for months lol. Lately I've been really into etsy. I dont know why, but I never really did anything with it, usually would just let it sit unless I had something to list or I wanted to play some kind of trading game on their forums. Truthfully, most of my sales have been trades except maybe 5.. one of which was just a couple days ago, so I guess promoting really does help.

On another note, since my blog is still new I haven't talked about my art at all. Last semester for a class I had to make my own website - http://students.mcad.edu/~gglynn but I'll give you a little sample here.

I guess I would call this an example of my "style" I like making realistic illustrations. At the same time, I'm still a fairly new student so I'm still trying out a lot of new things. I plan to be an illustrator once I graduate.

So it's been over a year..

After reading a lot of lovely blogs today I thought, hey it'd be nice if there was somewhere I could have the stories behind all of my craft/art projects in one place. And then I realized that I tried having a blog once, and completely forgot about it (of course). Then I thought well, I should have one connected with the same name as my etsy shop. So, I managed to remember how to log into blogger and abracadabra! I already had one..

I'm really excited to start blogging.. like for real! So if any of you are actually reading this and have favorite blogs you should help a sister out and let me know where they're at.

Okay.. so I guess I should update? well I've been done with freshman year at MCAD for a couple months now. Loved it. Now my live consists of working at a coffee shop and being creative when I can. My main focus has been repainting furniture so that my bedroom will not have a random "whatever happened to be on sale during the month of august 2007" look to it. I should note that my sewing machine broke, so.. I've switched to jewelry! It's going surprisingly well.. havent added much to etsy yet though, so I guess I dont really know how well its going yet.

right, so the jewelry.. it's something I felt like I had done before, but when i really think about it, this was a first. I was inspired by all the cute resin jewelry on craftster.org and was able to be successful thanks to some great tutorials on it. These definitly aren't all of them but I will add more- now that I'm a blogger.

I started casting simple things like buttons and sprinkles

Then I used magazine clippings..

Then I figured out I could recycle old eye shadow tins and use my own designs to make some pretty spiffy rings..

and I then of course added tiny rhinestones on some of them to give them some extra pizazz

Alright.. well that's it for me this time, and again please pass your favorite blog url's over to me :)
